First Sketches…
Monster Parenting was about a little girl with red horns whose dad looks like a scary monster and her best friend has a different set of horns.
The daughter is naïve, adventurous, very excitable, and enjoys eating flowers.
The father is quiet, soft-spoken, and caring.
The boy is friendly, angry, shocked, and serious.
The daughter became Lykke, the adopted daughter and now a changeling.
The father became Ure of Minos.
The boy became Lucian of Eland.
There are many more exciting characters and monsters to be revealed.
The story evolved but a lot of my original ideas for the character’s personalities stayed the same. Lykke’s horns simplified a bit and her hair changed shapes quite a few times. Also! All of the characters originally didn’t have pupils.
First Storyboards…
The storyboards started with little ideas based on interactions between the characters.
This became the first short 3-page comic. The comic was based on the girl playing around and races the boy. But then, the boy stops her because he sees a cliff and stops her before she gets hurt. The boy yells at her out of worry. Behind the girl appears a giant monster with red horns. Then the girl says “Hey dad!”
